Volante Technologies Ensures Client Compliance with SEPA Instant Payments and SWIFT SRG 2025 Mandates

Volante Technologies, a global provider of Payments as a Service (PaaS), has successfully enabled its clients to comply with the latest SEPA Instant Payments Regulation (IPR) and the SWIFT SRG 2025 mandate. These critical industry updates came into effect on October 9th and November 22nd, 2025, respectively, following a significant FedISO upgrade in July that transitioned trillions of dollars in payments to the ISO 20022 messaging format.

SEPA IPR marks a key European regulatory milestone, requiring instant payments to be processed within 10 seconds, 24/7, year-round. Eurozone banks faced strict compliance deadlines, with January 9th, 2025, for receiving instant payments and October 9th for sending them. This regulation impacted over 700 banks across Europe, with non-compliance incurring penalties of at least 10% of annual net turnover. Concurrently, the SWIFT SRG 2025 represents a substantial global mandate, shifting the payments industry from the legacy MT messaging format to the XML-based ISO 20022 MX standard for high-volume SWIFT cross-border payments. This new format aims to enhance global interoperability, data richness, fraud detection, and operational efficiency, with MT messages no longer supported after the November 22nd deadline.

Banks encountered distinct challenges in meeting these regulations due to tight timelines, operational complexities, and limitations imposed by legacy infrastructure. A survey conducted by Volante Technologies in May 2025, titled “Volante’s Big Survey 2025,” indicated that only 36% of Dutch banks and 39% of Belgian banks were offering SEPA Instant Payments. Additionally, 14% of banks in EMEA were still evaluating options for SWIFT ISO 20022 compliance just months before the deadline.

As a modernization partner, Volante Technologies guided its European and global customers in preparing for the SEPA IPR 2025 and SWIFT SRG 2025 mandates. The company supported clients across various geographies and deployment models, including PaaS and on-premise infrastructure. By leveraging its ISO-native payments platform, Volante delivered a seamless and disruption-free migration, successfully upgrading all customers to the ISO 20022 MX format over a 48-hour ‘go-live’ weekend, ensuring full compliance with both mandates.

Philip Benson, Senior Operations Manager at QIB (UK) plc, commented on the migration, stating, “Volante’s support and solutions were integral to our successful migration. Transition periods are normally a source of stress for businesses, as any disruption can wreak havoc on services, customers, and their users. But this wasn’t the case here. Partnering with Volante meant migration occurred instantly and operations continued optimally. These upgrades, powered by Volante’s advanced technology, allow us to fully embrace the future of payments and drive even more value for our customers.”

Vijay Oddiraju, CEO at Volante Technologies, expressed pride in the achievement: “For more than two decades, our customers have relied on us as true partners in their modernization journey. Their continued trust — reflected in these two successful regulatory upgrades — is something we are deeply proud of. Both migrations had complicated elements but SRG 2025 was particularly complex, as it involved both technology and operational changes. However, regardless of the deployment model, we were able to help all our customers achieve compliance without disruption, delivering the level of service Volante customers have come to expect — and rightfully so. Our solutions and support enable banks to comply today and innovate tomorrow.”

Deepak Gupta, Chief Product, Engineering, and Delivery Officer at Volante, added, “Volante’s platform was built to be ISO-native and real-time ready, enabling seamless compliance and unlocking new opportunities for innovation. With this migration, banks have gained the ability to offer instant payments and ISO 20022-based services, to not only maintain compliance but future-proof their infrastructure.”

While many banks met the SRG 2025 deadline through tactical fixes such as message translation tools on top of legacy systems, the achievement of compliance presents an opportune moment to transition to ISO-native platforms to fully leverage the value of ISO 20022 data. The regulatory landscape continues to evolve, with SEPA Instant Payment rules set to extend to non-Euro area member states, including Poland and Sweden, in 2027. Volante Technologies intends to continue its partnerships with customers, assisting them in adopting ISO-native, real-time capabilities and utilizing these foundations to deliver value-added services beyond 2026.
