Unsere Grüne Glasfaser (UGG), a wholesale fiber optic network operator in Germany, has chosen an integrated SaaS-based Business Support Systems (BSS) suite, comprising Aria Billing Cloud, ServiceNow CRM, and Tenon, to modernize its billing, customer relationship management, and marketing operations amid significant expansion.
UGG, a joint venture formed in 2020 by Telefónica Group and Allianz, focuses on delivering broadband to underserved rural areas across Germany. The decision to procure a new BSS suite follows the October 2024 acquisition of Infrafibre Germany and its subsidiaries, alongside newly signed agreements with multiple municipalities and internet service providers (ISPs). These developments have accelerated UGG’s need for scalable, automated, and modernized capabilities to support its goal of connecting approximately 2 million premises.
The selected solution integrates Aria Systems’ AI-powered billing automation with ServiceNow CRM for enterprise customer revenue and service operations. Tenon, a marketing automation platform built on ServiceNow, will handle campaign orchestration, segmentation, and lead nurturing. Markus Keller, Director of IT at UGG, stated that this combination provides a modern, scalable SaaS BSS platform to support business growth by replacing legacy systems and manual processes with agile, automated, and data-driven systems.
Keller emphasized that the new systems are designed to remove bottlenecks, reduce complexity, and position UGG for rapid scaling as it expands its wholesale network and operates more efficiently to deliver connectivity across Germany. Aria’s billing capability is expected to manage high volumes of complex usage-based invoices, supporting UGG’s wholesale growth and potential future expansion into retail.
Tom Dibble, President & CEO of Aria Systems, noted that this engagement deepens Aria’s presence in the telecommunications industry and highlights the value of its partnership with ServiceNow for Communication Service Providers (CSPs). He added that high-growth businesses like UGG require agile, scalable billing, natively integrated with leading CRM systems, to manage the entire customer lifecycle and deliver superior experiences.
Romit Ghose, Head of Product, Telecom & Media Industries at ServiceNow, commented on the importance of AI-driven intelligence across enterprise functions for exceptional customer engagement. Ghose explained that the joint Aria, ServiceNow CRM, and Tenon solution facilitates high-value AI insights by connecting data, people, and processes to orchestrate complexities across marketing, sales, fulfillment, and service. This partnership aims to leverage AI in customer interactions, enabling providers to launch offers quicker, generate demand, resolve issues faster, and build trust.
Aria Systems enables enterprises to automate complex usage and subscription billing models. Aria Billing Cloud incorporates predictive and generative AI. The company’s clients include CSPs such as TalkTalk Business, M1 Singapore, Telstra, and Liberty Latin America, as well as enterprises like Arlo, Comcast, Experian, and Subaru.
Unsere Grüne Glasfaser (UGG), a joint venture between Allianz and Telefónica, lays modern fibre optic networks directly to homes (fibre-to-the-home, FTTH) and makes them openly available to cooperating internet service providers (open access). UGG also provides services and solutions for residential buildings and housing associations.
