SkillBit Launches OnDemand Labs to Address Cybersecurity Skills Gap with Performance-Based Training

SkillBit, formerly MetaCTF, has launched its OnDemand Labs training platform, a solution designed to help corporate customers recruit, retain, and upskill cybersecurity talent through immersive, performance-based training.

The launch addresses the escalating challenge of a widening cybersecurity talent gap, driven by the rapid evolution of cyber threats that outpace traditional educational frameworks. A 2025 CyberBay Survey highlighted the severity of this issue, reporting that over 80% of IT professionals believe there are insufficient skilled individuals to meet current demand. Furthermore, 62.9% indicated that professional training programs do not adequately adapt to evolving requirements, and 74.5% suggested that existing undergraduate cybersecurity curricula lack essential components.”It’s time for a new approach to upgrading cybersecurity talent,” stated Thomas Rogers, co-founder and COO of SkillBit. “OnDemand Labs delivers active, hands-on skill development that equips security professionals to tackle real-world threats. Companies can now build stronger teams, track progress, and better defend their digital environment.”SkillBit’s OnDemand Labs offers modular, gamified labs designed to translate theoretical knowledge into practical readiness. The self-service solution is scalable and provides measurable results for both corporate teams and individuals. Its features include over 500 hands-on challenges covering domains such as forensics, cryptography, exploitation, OSINT, reverse engineering, AI/ML, cloud, and red/blue team operations. The platform also provides guided learning modules and structured learning paths, a gamified experience with scoreboards, weekly streaks, certifications, and real-time feedback, alongside cloud-based virtual machines and enterprise integrations for Single Sign-On (SSO) and Learning Management System (LMS) compatibility. Automated performance reporting is also available to identify skill gaps, quantify return on investment, and track team progress.

Organizations, including Cigna’s Incident Response unit, have adopted OnDemand Labs to move beyond static video training and into scenario-driven mastery.

SkillBit will also host a Capture the Flag (CTF) competition and showcase its platform at the inaugural CyberBay 2025 Summit in Tampa, Florida. The summit is anticipated to draw more than 150 participants and will convene key stakeholders from education, government, and the private sector. The CyberBay CTF challenge will follow a Jeopardy-style format, featuring categories such as cryptography, OSINT, forensics, web exploitation, reverse engineering, and a King of the Hill (KotH) component. Prior to the summit, a global audience of nearly 1,000 cybersecurity professionals and students participated in the “Road to CyberBay” virtual qualifiers, with winners receiving an all-expense paid trip to the Summit. A practice environment is accessible at https://mctf.io/practice.

Founded in 2019, SkillBit (formerly MetaCTF) provides gamified, career-aligned, and hands-on training for cybersecurity teams. The company has facilitated over 450 training events and competitions for more than 220 enterprises, offering over 1,000 challenges and learning modules along with enterprise-ready integrations.
