SafePackage, a specialist in AI-driven customs compliance and clearance, has been selected by U.
S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) as a participant in its Commercial Solutions Opening Pilot Program (CSOP) under Pillar 1, focusing on AI-driven solutions.
The CSOP aims to integrate private sector technologies into CBP’s testing environments to evaluate their effectiveness in streamlining trade, enhancing security, and securing tariff revenue. SafePackage was chosen for its AI-powered system designed for accurate and automated compliance and duty collection, specifically addressing the challenges of high-volume e-commerce trade.
The rapid expansion of cross-border e-commerce has led to complexities in shipment data accuracy, compliance adherence, and proper duty collection. The increasing volume of small packages in global trade, coupled with evolving regulations, has created a need for improved efficiency, reduced costs, and maximized revenue collection for both the private sector and CBP. SafePackage’s pilot platform is intended to facilitate precise duty payments and provide greater visibility throughout the supply chain.
SafePackage’s platform will enhance transparency for CBP regarding products destined for the United States, promoting more effective trade facilitation and enforcement. The system facilitates the collection and transmission of detailed international mail data, including duty payment confirmation, to CBP before packages depart their country of origin. This pre-departure data transmission allows for comprehensive, at-scale compliance screening at the source, reducing the influx of high-risk or non-compliant shipments into the U.
S.
By identifying potential violations early, such as intellectual property infringements, dangerous goods, and other prohibited or restricted items, SafePackage aims to streamline the flow of compliant goods. Additionally, the platform is designed to provide highly accurate and automated tariff classifications (HTS codes), value validation, and probable country of origin determinations, potentially minimizing the need for manual intervention.
The SafePackage system captures granular data for each shipment, including product web listings, images, and descriptions. This data can enable CBP to trace goods more effectively from origin to destination, significantly enhancing supply chain transparency for enforcement purposes. Through this partnership, CBP will assess how access to private sector trade data can improve trade compliance, presenting opportunities for increased efficiency, lower costs, and maximized revenue.
John Farley, Founder and CEO of SafePackage and its parent company International Bridge, commented on the initiative, stating, “We are incredibly proud to partner with U.
S. Customs and Border Protection on this important initiative, which has the potential to generate billions of dollars in additional U.
S. revenue. Our proprietary AI-driven platform provides an unparalleled level of clarity to the trade process, enabling the heroes at CBP to more easily protect the security of the American people and economic interests of our country on a large scale. At the same time, we aim to ensure that hard-working, compliant shippers have a smoother, more efficient customs clearance process. We are committed to ensuring that we support CBP and their continued efforts to make global trade more secure, transparent, and fair for everyone.”
Shoshana Grove, CEO of International Bridge and former Executive at the Postal Regulatory Commission, added, “For the first time, AI-driven data will ensure the security and tracking of U.
S. shipments at scale, rather than the honor system. We are honored to be selected to the CSOP’s inaugural cohort, following our recent selection as one of the first “Qualified Parties” certified by Customs and Border Protection to collect and remit duties from foreign postal operators.”
SafePackage is currently engaged in discussions with major retailers and shipping companies to recruit partners for the ongoing Pilot Program.
