Regula, a global developer of identity verification solutions, has shared its expert knowledge on document forensics and identity verification with Forrester Research, contributing to two new analyst reports that examine evolving fraud risks in digital onboarding.\n\nWith over 30 years of experience in forensic document examination and extensive collaboration with border agencies, Regula provided expert analysis to Forrester, particularly on why non-identity documents such as bank statements and utility bills are becoming critical risk factors in digital onboarding workflows.\n\nRegula contributed significantly to “The State of Document Fraud Management” report, authored by Andras Cser, VP Principal Analyst at Forrester Research. This report investigates the increasing necessity of verifying physical non-identity documents—including bank statements, telecom bills, utility bills, and receipts—in digital onboarding processes. Regula’s insights were integrated into sections detailing types of document fraud (digital manipulation, physical manipulation, full counterfeits, and forged signatures), AI-related risks (AI-generated documents and deepfake-style alterations), the growth of physical document fraud in onboarding and compliance, multilayer document analysis (visual analysis, content analysis, and metadata analysis), and best practices, such as using original PDFs and checking metadata integrity with AI techniques supported by human review.\n\nAdditionally, Regula was among the vendors interviewed by Forrester for “The Key Trends Shaping Identity Verification” report. This report highlights crucial shifts in the identity verification (IDV) landscape, including the transition from outdated “secret questions” to real-document-based verification, the rising importance of authoritative government data sources, and the demand for deeper document analysis and manipulation detection driven by the increased complexity of fraud attempts using agentic AI.\n\nThe purpose of these contributions is to foster a clearer understanding of how document fraud and identity verification threats are evolving. Regula aims to assist organizations in strengthening digital trust, mitigating fraud risk, and enhancing verification workflows as AI-based attacks, including deepfakes, and document manipulation become more prevalent.\n\nIhar Kliashchou, Chief Technology Officer at Regula, stated, “We share our expertise because document fraud affects people and organizations everywhere. When companies understand how fraud is changing, they can protect users and build safer digital experiences. We are glad to support research that helps the industry prepare for future risks.”
