Regula, a global developer specializing in forensic devices and identity verification solutions, has introduced the Regula 7223E, an embedded document reader designed to enhance and streamline ID card checks at self-service kiosks and e-gates. Engineered specifically for ID-1 format documents, such as driver’s licenses and national ID cards, this compact scanner aims to optimize identity verification processes for border control and various businesses by accelerating checks, reducing user errors, and improving overall customer experience at scale.Self-service solutions have become prevalent across various sectors, including airports, hotels, casinos, and secure facilities. However, friction points often arise during ID card verification, particularly when users incorrectly insert documents or need to scan multiple sides. The Regula 7223E addresses these challenges by offering dual-side scanning in a single step, enabling no-wrong-way card insertion, and facilitating automatic ejection post-scanning. These features are designed to result in faster processing times, fewer operational errors, and a more seamless experience for both customers and operators. The Regula 7223E is an OEM version based on the company’s existing desktop ID card reader, the Regula 72X3. This new iteration is developed to meet emerging demands within self-service environments, functioning as a standalone document reader in kiosks, e-gates, and other automated points. The device also offers enhanced capabilities through its full compatibility with Regula’s embedded full-page document reader, the Regula 70X8M. This integration allows organizations to automatically route different document types, such as passports or ID cards, to the appropriate device. A built-in indicator further assists users, improving usability and accelerating verification workflows.Like all Regula document readers, the 7223E integrates with the Regula Document Reader SDK, a comprehensive software solution for document verification. This SDK facilitates multiple automated checks, including the analysis of MRZ data, barcodes, RFID chips, and visual elements, to confirm the authenticity of identification documents. The system leverages Regula’s proprietary identity document template database, which is reported to be the world’s largest, containing over 15,000 templates sourced from 252 countries and territories.”We designed the Regula 7223E to remove unnecessary friction in ID checks,” stated Alex Lewanowicz, Director of Hardware Engineering at Regula. “With this launch, we now offer a complete suite of embedded readers tailored to document type, with shared software tools and synchronized operation. Whether verifying a passport or an ID card, organizations can count on fast, reliable, and accurate data capture and authentication from a single trusted provider.”Regula is a global developer of forensic devices and identity verification solutions. With over 30 years of experience in forensic research and a comprehensive library of document templates, the company develops technologies for document and biometric verification. Its hardware and software solutions are utilized by more than 1,000 organizations and 80 border control authorities worldwide, aiming to provide client service while maintaining safety, security, and speed.
