Planet Labs GmbH, a leading provider of daily data and insights about change on Earth, and AXA Digital Commercial Platform (AXA DCP), an all-in-one risk management system, have announced a strategic partnership to integrate high-frequency satellite imagery for near-real-time monitoring, prediction, and response to natural disasters. This collaboration aims to enhance understanding and management of both man-made and natural disasters, including floods, wildfires, and hurricanes.

Under the partnership, AXA DCP will incorporate data from Planet’s high-resolution and medium-resolution satellites, alongside high-frequency Basemaps, into its AI-powered platform. This integration will provide clients with a “ground truth” layer of environmental intelligence, enabling preventative actions against extreme weather events by leveraging Planet’s near-daily global scanning capabilities.

Pierre du Rostu, CEO of AXA DCP, commented on the alliance, stating that natural disasters are an ever-present danger exacerbated by the climate crisis. He emphasized the need for high-quality climate intelligence to understand, respond rapidly to, and foresee such events, allowing clients to take preventative or evasive measures. Du Rostu highlighted that Planet’s data and insights, combined with AXA DCP’s in-house expertise, will significantly enhance their ability to support clients and society, marking a forward step in the future of insurance.

Will Marshall, CEO and Co-Founder of Planet, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, noting that the integration of satellite data into AXA’s digital platform will facilitate smarter claims monitoring. He underscored the critical role of real-time information in intelligently responding to extreme weather events, which are occurring with increasing scale and frequency. Marshall added that the partnership will equip AXA’s customers with objective data necessary for navigating environmental volatility and protecting communities.

Planet’s daily, analysis-ready data offers essential support for the insurance industry. It enables companies to scale their insights, develop advanced predictive models, and conduct more efficient global risk analysis across key areas such such as disaster preparedness, drought monitoring, and wildfire and flood risk assessment.

Planet Labs GmbH operates as part of the Planet group, with its European headquarters in Berlin. Its parent company, Planet Labs PBC (NYSE: PL), headquartered in San Francisco, USA, was founded in 2010 by three NASA scientists. Planet designs, builds, and operates an extensive Earth observation fleet of imaging satellites, with a mission to image the world daily and make change visible, accessible, and actionable. It supplies mission-critical data, advanced insights, and software solutions to a diverse client base, including leading agriculture, forestry, intelligence, education, finance companies, and government agencies.

AXA Digital Commercial Platform (AXA DCP) is a recent initiative from AXA, a global leader in insurance and asset management.
