Filene Research Institute, Vertice AI, and Vizo Financial have partnered to establish CUltivate, a new Credit Union Service Organization (CUSO) that has unveiled a foundational artificial intelligence (AI) model specifically developed and trained using credit union industry content.
CUltivate is designed to be majority-owned by credit unions and the broader credit union movement, ensuring industry governance and accountability for the platform. This new offering aims to provide a credit union-specific alternative to generic AI services, incorporating necessary guardrails and contextual understanding to meet the unique requirements of the sector regarding member information privacy, training material transparency, and response trustworthiness.
The platform is engineered to empower credit union employees, leadership, and ecosystem partners to leverage AI effectively and responsibly, ultimately enhancing member service efficiency. CUltivate’s purpose-built solution features a chat interface for direct AI interaction and robust infrastructure for developers to build upon its capabilities, positioning it as a foundational AI model for the credit union movement.
Credit unions can utilize CUltivate for various applications, including regulatory assistance, vendor evaluation, content creation, process optimization, branch-level knowledge management improvement, macro trend analysis, and community impact ideation. The model is trained on extensive credit union industry data from reputable channels, with time-sensitive information integrated to ensure current and relevant outputs.
Mitch Rutledge, CEO and co-founder of Vertice AI, stated, “We created CUltivate to give credit unions a responsible approach to AI; we enable them to keep up with an aggressive pace of change and reap the benefits of AI without compromising the principles they stand on.” Anthony Volpe, CEO and co-founder of CUltivate, added, “Credit unions across the board are challenged with effectively leveraging AI; adoption is typically either uneven or slow, which can leave an institution dangerously behind. We created CUltivate to bridge this divide with a trusted, responsible common denominator for AI in the credit union industry.”
Fred Eisel, CEO of Vizo Financial, commented on the model’s potential, saying, “CUltivate has the power to transform our member credit unions’ operations, solving for real pain points such as vendor evaluations, regulatory and trend analysis, and process optimization.” Mark Meyer, CEO and president at Filene, emphasized the research institute’s role, noting, “Helping credit unions adapt and thrive in emerging areas like AI is a primary focus of ours at Filene. Making our research more accessible through this model empowers credit unions to save time, boost productivity and differentiate, supported by trusted industry data.”
To mitigate the risk of bias and misinformation, CUltivate operates with an advisory committee comprising respected credit union experts and leaders who oversee data selection for ongoing training and updates. While anchor investment has been secured, CUltivate is actively seeking additional aligned credit unions and ecosystem partners to complete its funding round, reinforcing its cooperative ownership model. The platform is designed for rapid deployment within hours, requiring no integration work. For more information, visit getcultivate.ai.
