Nacha’s Payments Innovation Alliance has released three new Spanish-language educational resources designed to assist financial institutions in informing and protecting Spanish-speaking consumers from prevalent financial scams. These materials specifically aim to reduce exploitation by increasing awareness of mobile scams and “money mule” activities.

All resources were developed by the Alliance’s Consumer Financial Exploitation Project Team. The first resource is an infographic titled “¿Alguien le ha enviado dinero? ¡Usted podría ser una mula de dinero!” (“Has Someone Sent You Money? You Could Be a Money Mule!”). This infographic is intended to help consumers identify situations where they might unknowingly be facilitating fraud, illustrating how fraudsters manipulate individuals into transferring illicit funds, often exposing them to severe legal and financial repercussions.

Complementing the infographic, the team also created a video, “Dinero facil, no existe. Tu preudencia es tu mejor proteccion” (“Highway to Easy Money? Think Again.”). This video provides an additional engaging format to raise awareness about how to avoid becoming a money mule.

Additionally, a discussion guide, “Manténgase seguro y tenga cuidado con las estafas móviles” (“Stay Safe and Watch Out for Mobile Scams”), offers an easy-to-follow overview of key tactics employed by fraudsters via smartphones. It provides clear, actionable tips to help mobile users of all ages protect their personal information and remain vigilant against increasingly sophisticated scams.

Jennifer West, AAP, AFPP, APRP, Senior Director, Payments Innovation Alliance, Education and Accreditation, stated, “These resources help financial institutions educate Spanish-speaking community members on common financial scams. Providing clear, accessible information in Spanish strengthens fraud prevention by reaching more people.”

The resources are designed for easy dissemination on financial institution websites, at branches, and through digital communications. They are part of the Alliance’s ongoing commitment to assist financial institutions in educating and protecting consumers from financial scams.
