Insurance venture capital firm Markd has reopened its inaugural fund, seeking to raise up to $500 million in new capital to further its strategy of investing in the future of the insurance sector.
Boulder, Colorado-based Markd manages capital for insurance companies and intends to deploy the additional commitments to back private companies that can deliver strong returns and strategic innovation for insurers and their distribution partners. The firm also indicated a potential shift towards a more acquisitive strategy, which would involve taking larger ownership stakes in selected target companies.
Markd launched its first fund in 2022 with $100 million. Since its inception, the firm has deployed capital across 68 investments within 22 active portfolio companies.
Named after historical fire marks, the firm’s identity reflects its established connection to the insurance industry and its commitment to modernizing the sector through strategic venture investments. Further expansion of the fund’s capacity may occur before the end of the year.
