German digital bank N26 has announced the appointment of Marcus Mosen, chairman of its supervisory board, as co-CEO. Mosen officially joined N26’s management board on 1 September 2025, succeeding co-founder Valentin Stalf.

Valentin Stalf, who established N26 with current co-CEO Maximilian Tayenthal in 2013, stepped down from his co-CEO role last month. He will transition to a new position on the company’s supervisory board after a six-month period. Stalf described this move on LinkedIn as a “forward-looking decision to continue to best utilise my many years of experience and knowledge to strengthen N26.”

Mosen has served as chairman of N26’s supervisory board since October 2022 and brings extensive leadership experience, including a previous tenure as CEO of payment service provider Concardis.

The challenger bank’s management board now consists of co-CEOs Mosen and Tayenthal, alongside chief financial officer Arnd Schwierholz. In December 2025, Jochen Klöpper, an executive from Santander, will join the board as chief risk officer.

N26 has also proposed Andreas Dombret, an industry veteran, to succeed Mosen as chairman of the supervisory board. Dombret’s career includes roles as managing director at JP Morgan and policy advisor at Amazon Web Services, in addition to his current membership on Santander’s international advisory board. His appointment is expected to be formalized at an extraordinary general meeting in early October. During the interim period, Peter Kleinschmidt, who chairs N26’s risk and audit committee, will serve as chairman of the supervisory board.
