Madalena Cascais Tomé, former CEO of SIBS, has been appointed as the new Head of Financial Services at Worldline, effective immediately, also joining the executive committee of the France-based payments firm.
Tomé succeeds Alessandro Baroni, who served in the position for two years and has decided to depart to pursue other opportunities. Worldline, headquartered in Paris, specializes in transaction processing and payment clearing services for banks, retailers, and various businesses across Europe.
In 2024, Worldline reported total revenue of €4.6 billion, with its financial services division contributing €891 million. Tomé’s role will involve guiding the division through “its next phase of innovation, growth, and transformation,” a strategic effort also supported by Candice Dillon, who assumed the role of Group Chief Technology Officer in July.
This broader transformation at Worldline includes the divestiture of its mobility and e-transactional services business to Magellan Partners for approximately €410 million. The sale process, which commenced in July, is projected to conclude in the first half of 2026.
Tomé brings extensive experience in financial services growth initiatives from her decade-long tenure as CEO of SIBS, a Portuguese payment services provider. During her leadership, SIBS delivered over 65 new products and expanded its operations across 15 new business lines.
Beyond SIBS, Tomé chairs the European Mobile Payments Systems Association (EMPSA) and co-leads the European Payments Alliance (EuroPA). Through EuroPA, SIBS is collaborating with payment providers Bancomat and Bizum to implement instant cross-border payment capabilities. Her prior career also includes roles at Portugal Telecom Group, where she oversaw B2C commercial strategy and operations, as well as positions at McKinsey and Deloitte.
