m3ter, a provider of data infrastructure designed to enhance usage-based pricing for software companies, has launched m3sh Workflows. This new offering aims to automate complex business processes between core CRM and ERP systems, addressing operational challenges such as billing errors, revenue leakage, and slow processes often associated with usage-based pricing models.
m3sh Workflows is positioned to assist operationally mature software companies in connecting platforms like Salesforce and NetSuite to m3ter’s system, enabling usage-based pricing at scale. This connectivity is intended to level the competitive landscape with AI-native companies that already leverage usage-based pricing effectively. The core challenge for established software companies transitioning to hybrid or usage-based pricing is the inability of their existing CRM and ERP systems to meet new technical requirements without costly replacements. m3ter provides an infrastructure layer that processes usage data, handles complex rating, and automates data flows between monetization systems.
Griffin Parry, CEO and Co-Founder of m3ter, stated that “m3sh Workflows is key to our vision for automation, putting power in the hands of customers to build and manage automated workflows that connect their quote-to-cash systems.” He added that “with half of all B2B SaaS companies adopting usage-based pricing in some form, these companies need a fit-for-purpose solution like m3ter to avoid intense operational problems. m3sh Workflows is the latest enhancement to our solution to enable software companies to deliver the hybrid and usage-based pricing options they need to improve, pricing agility, faster product launches, and increased revenue.”
The transition from simple subscription-based pricing to more complex usage-based models necessitates new mechanisms for processing usage data, applying pricing, and integrating with the broader quote-to-cash stack. This involves pulling data such as pricing, orders, and contracts from various sources and delivering bill calculations and usage summaries to multiple systems. m3ter, an API-first platform with an events-based architecture and pre-built integrations, facilitates these connections by providing data translation, logic application for data transformation, and continuous calculations for near real-time usage and billing tracking. The platform is designed to extend existing tooling like Salesforce and NetSuite rather than disrupt them.
Initially an internal tool, m3sh Workflows is now directly available to m3ter customers. It operates in two modes: read mode, where customers can view automations built for them, and write mode, which allows customers to create and edit their own workflows. Read access is included with m3ter’s core package, while write access is subject to an incremental fee. Isaac DeLuca, Chief Accounting Officer at Matillion, an ETL platform, commented, “m3ter delivered roadmap acceleration across our entire quote-to-cash process, which underpins our ability to sell the right products in the right way and in the right places. Now, m3sh Workflows gives us even more control of how we configure and automate complex business process logic so we can go even quicker.”
m3sh Workflows’ capabilities include low- and no-code workflow automation, enabling business teams to build and manage multi-step automated workflows for data transformation, business logic application, and information routing between CRM and ERP systems. The solution also features visual workflow design with full API support. Typical applications include syncing customer data between CRM and ERP, triggering alerts based on aggregated or rated usage hitting defined thresholds, and automatically updating contract and pricing plans from external systems. m3ter was founded in London in 2020.
