Klarna, a global digital bank and flexible payments provider, announced its support for Google’s Agent Payments Protocol (AP2), an open standard designed to facilitate secure, agent-led payments across digital platforms.
This collaboration builds on Klarna’s established relationship with Google, which already includes integrations with Google Pay, Chrome’s autofill feature, Google Store, Google Play, and Google Cloud. The initiative aims to define an open and responsible payments architecture for the future of shopping, particularly as agent-led commerce expands.
David Sykes, Chief Commercial Officer at Klarna, commented on the development, stating, “Agent-led commerce represents an exciting new frontier, one that demands transparency, trust, and smarter payment experiences. We’re doubling down on our long-standing relationship with Google to support their work with AP2 and help define an open, responsible payments architecture for the future of shopping.”
Klarna’s existing technology provides seamless payments through real-time underwriting and flexible payment options, including debit, interest-free installments, and longer-term plans. Extending these capabilities via AP2 will allow consumers to shop with confidence, ensuring consistent and intelligent payment experiences whether they are directly interacting with an agent or delegating transaction duties to one.
Stavan Parikh, VP/GM, Payments at Google, acknowledged the ongoing partnership: “For years, we’ve been working with Klarna to help deliver secure, seamless, and innovative payment experiences. Their contributions to shape Agent Payments Protocol exemplify the critical cross-industry collaboration needed to build open, secure, and scalable frameworks to enable the future of commerce.”
Klarna’s involvement in AP2 highlights its evolution from a payments provider to a core infrastructure contributor for next-generation commerce. This marks a significant milestone in its continuous efforts with Google to create more intelligent, secure, and intuitive shopping experiences globally. Klarna currently serves over 111 million global active users, processing 2.9 million transactions daily. Its AI-powered payments and commerce network aims to empower consumers to pay smarter, with a mission to be available everywhere for everything. The company works with more than 790,000 retailers, including Uber, H&M, Saks, Sephora, Macy’s, Ikea, Expedia Group, Nike, and Airbnb.
