Identy.io Integrates Deepfake Detection to Combat AI-Powered Identity Fraud

Share It:

Identy.io, a provider of mobile biometric authentication solutions, has introduced deepfake detection capabilities to its facial capture solution. This enhancement is designed to address the rise of AI-powered identity fraud, providing critical protection for financial institutions, government agencies, and enterprises facing threats to conventional liveness systems.

Jesús Aragón, CEO and co-founder of Identy.io, stated, “When visual evidence can no longer be trusted, it undermines the very foundation of public trust. The ability to convincingly fabricate statements from influential leaders, business executives, journalists, celebrities or other subject matter experts poses substantial risks to societal stability and informed decision-making. By integrating these capabilities into Identy.io’s technology platform, we’re making a decisive advancement in addressing this escalating threat.”

Generative AI-enabled fraud losses in the U.

S. are projected to reach $40 billion by 2027, an increase from $12.3 billion in 2023. Financial losses from deepfake-enabled fraud surpassed $200 million in the first quarter of 2025 alone, with deepfakes now accounting for 40% of global biometric fraud attempts. This growth is partly attributed to the widespread availability of deepfake generation applications, which are accessible at low cost and can run on standard PCs.

Traditional biometric systems have historically used presentation attack detection (PAD) and liveness detection to counter spoofing attacks involving photos, screen replays, or 3D masks. These defenses relied on detecting physical artifacts or a lack of genuine depth. However, deepfake attacks circumvent these methods by combining a target user’s facial features with an attacker’s live presence, allowing for natural responses to liveness challenges while displaying a synthetic face. Additionally, attackers can inject synthetic content directly into the video stream using virtual camera software, bypassing PAD systems designed for physical artifacts.

Identy.io’s updated solution employs a defense-in-depth strategy, combining multiple independent layers to counter both traditional and AI-powered threats. These layers include AI-Driven Deepfake Detection, which uses visual and temporal analysis to identify AI-generated synthetic media; Injection Attack Prevention, which ensures camera, device, and code integrity during the capture process; and Passive PAD, which continues to protect against physical presentation attacks. Each layer is designed to address different attack vectors, ensuring continuous protection even if one defense is bypassed.

The enhanced solution maintains Identy.io’s performance standards, building on its iBeta ISO 30107-3 testing results, which demonstrated 100% attack detection with 0% false rejections of legitimate users. This commitment to security and usability extends to the new capabilities, providing comprehensive protection against AI-powered identity fraud while preserving a seamless user experience.

Identy.io is headquartered in the U.

S. with additional offices in Brazil, Mexico, Spain, and India. The company has secured over one billion identity transactions across banking, telecommunications, government, and healthcare sectors.
