Identity Verification Leaders Regula and Indicio Partner to Secure Digital Credentials and Trust

Share It:

Regula, a global developer of identity verification (IDV) solutions and forensic devices, and Indicio, a market leader in Verifiable Credential technology and decentralized identity solutions, have formed a strategic technology partnership. This collaboration aims to deliver portable digital trust by issuing document and biometric identity verification as tamper-proof Verifiable Credentials.

This partnership is designed to establish a comprehensive infrastructure for the creation, storage, and verification of digital identities, leveraging advanced verification technologies. Regula brings extensive forensic expertise and innovation in document and biometric verification, offering a complete set of ID authenticity checks and server-side document NFC verification through its Regula Document Reader SDK. This solution is supported by Regula’s proprietary database, which currently holds over 15,000 identity document templates from 252 countries and territories.

Indicio’s decentralized identity technology will enable the transformation of Regula’s identity document validations into user-held, tamper-proof Verifiable Credentials, allowing for instant and seamless verification. This integration is expected to provide a wide range of globally interoperable digital identity solutions for both businesses and governments.

The combined capabilities of Regula and Indicio will facilitate the deployment of Verifiable Credentials across various formats, including those specified by the European Union’s Digital Identity Wallet (EUDI), Digital Travel Credentials (DTC) adhering to International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) specifications, W3C credentials, and the mobile document/mobile driver’s license format (ISO 18013-5, mdoc/mDL). Indicio plans to offer Regula’s biometric and document verification technology to its mobile wallet SDK customers, enhancing identity assurance for critical applications such as Know Your Customer (KYC) processes, payments, digital finance, travel, and hospitality. The partnership also addresses emerging threats, combining technologies to counter biometric identity fraud and generative AI deepfakes.

Heather Dahl, CEO of Indicio, stated, “This partnership transforms the way we share and verify data. The breadth and depth of Regula’s technology in document authentication is unmatched, and to be able to issue, share, and verify these documents as Verifiable Credentials provides the world with the breakthrough in digital trust it needs. We are tremendously excited to be working with Regula.”

Ihar Kliashchou, Chief Technology Officer at Regula, commented, “The global shift towards decentralized digital identity is here today, but it will bring tangible benefits only with the right technology behind it. Our partnership with Indicio bridges the gap between today’s physical documents and tomorrow’s trusted digital credentials. With Regula’s verification capabilities and Indicio’s decentralized infrastructure, organizations now have a powerful way to adopt fully portable digital identity.”
