Homebase, a platform for payroll, team management, and hiring, has announced its new Payroll Assistant, an AI-powered tool designed to detect and resolve timecard issues early, aiming to enhance confidence and efficiency for small business owners in managing payroll.
Homebase’s Payroll Assistant represents the latest addition to its suite of AI tools, building on a history of processing over 7 million paychecks and $5 billion in gross payroll since 2022. This new feature is developed to alleviate the complexities small businesses face with manual payroll preparation, which often involves multiple systems and processes.
The Payroll Assistant automatically identifies and addresses common timecard discrepancies, such as missed breaks, late punches, or forgotten clock-outs. It prompts employees to correct these issues proactively, preventing them from escalating into payroll errors. For managers, the tool offers a concise, easy-to-review summary, eliminating the need for extensive manual checks. Future updates will incorporate AI-driven insights to help owners understand factors influencing labor costs, payroll errors, and compliance risks, alongside actionable recommendations.
Key benefits for business owners and managers include preventing timecard errors before payroll runs, receiving streamlined summaries, optimizing labor spend through real-time visibility into costs and compliance, and enabling employees to quickly fix missed punches.
John Waldmann, CEO of Homebase, commented on the development, stating, “Payroll has always been a pain point for small businesses, with multiple systems and manual steps. Homebase’s suite of AI Assistants, including our new Payroll Assistant, helps flag and resolve issues before they become errors, simplify the work, and build confidence at every step.” Waldmann added that the Payroll Assistant supports Homebase’s goal of saving small businesses 100 million hours in the upcoming year, allowing them to reinvest that time into their businesses, teams, and communities.
In the past year, Homebase users recorded 1.2 billion hours worked across timesheets for 3.5 million employees. Existing Homebase Payroll customers report saving five hours monthly by integrating payroll, scheduling, and time tracking. Beta users of the Payroll Assistant have experienced an additional two hours of monthly savings, totaling 80 hours, or two work weeks annually, when utilizing Homebase Payroll.
The Payroll Assistant is currently in beta testing and is scheduled for wider release to customers on select plans in December. Homebase, known for its all-in-one platform for hourly teams, provides solutions spanning employee scheduling, time clocks, payroll, hiring, communication, and HR. The company is headquartered in San Francisco, Houston, Denver, and Toronto.
