Guardsquare, a Belgium-based provider of mobile application security solutions, has announced an agreement to acquire the Extended Threat Defense (XTD) assets from Verimatrix, a French company specializing in user security solutions. This transaction aims to expand Guardsquare’s customer base and augment its development capabilities.
Guardsquare, known for its open-source optimization tool ProGuard, offers a comprehensive mobile application security platform that includes automated testing, multi-layered protection, real-time threat monitoring, and app attestation. The company serves over 975 customers across more than 95 countries, spanning various major industries.
Verimatrix’s Extended Threat Defense (XTD) business, established in 2021, comprises cybersecurity experts focused on protecting mobile, web, and desktop applications. XTD solutions are designed to predict, detect, and respond to threats before systems are compromised, with a client portfolio primarily in the global media and banking sectors.
Roel Caers, CEO of Guardsquare, stated, “This acquisition exemplifies our ambitious M&A strategy. I am confident the addition of the technology developed by Verimatrix further reinforces our leading position in a constantly evolving market where innovation is key to supporting our customers in their quest to achieve the highest level of mobile app security.”
Laurent Dechaux, CEO of Verimatrix, commented on the sale, indicating it is “part of a broader effort to refocus the group’s activities on its core business while restoring momentum to revenue and earnings growth.” He added that this is “the first step in a strategy that we will continue to roll out over the coming months, with the aim of concentrating on the most promising market segments for video protection.” Verimatrix plans to present its full strategy during its annual results announcement in March 2026.
The agreement is expected to take effect in a few weeks, following the completion of standard regulatory checks.
