Fortanix, a global leader in data security, and BigID, a platform for data security, privacy, compliance, and AI governance, have announced an integration between Fortanix Data Security Manager (DSM) and BigID’s data discovery and classification capabilities to automate sensitive data protection.
The integration aims to automatically trigger protection actions when sensitive data is classified, thereby streamlining workflows, eliminating manual intervention, and maintaining complete audit trails of all data protection activities. This comprehensive solution addresses the current challenge of fragmented data protection processes.
Large enterprises frequently encounter difficulties managing sensitive data dispersed across on-premises, cloud, SaaS, and hybrid environments. This includes personal, financial, health, and proprietary information, which is subject to stringent regulations such as GDPR, CCPA, HIPAA, and PCI DSS. While Data Security Posture Management (DSPM) tools effectively identify sensitive data, a critical gap often exists between data discovery and its subsequent protection, leading to security risks, operational inefficiencies, and potential compliance failures.
The collaboration automates the protection of sensitive data by combining BigID’s discovery and classification with Fortanix’s advanced encryption services. Once configured, the system securely connects the two platforms, uses BigID’s PII classifiers to create corresponding security objects in Fortanix DSM, and applies encryption via tokenization through Fortanix APIs in line with pre-set policies.
Organizations utilizing this integration can achieve greater precision in triggering data protection, which enhances their security posture, supports faster compliance, and allows for more efficient operations, while still enabling value extraction from their data.
