DataLocker Achieves Dual FIPS 140-3 Level 3 Validation for Portable and USB Drives

DataLocker, a global provider of encryption solutions, announced it has become the only vendor worldwide to achieve FIPS 140-3 Level 3 validation for both its portable hard drive and USB flash drive categories, alongside maintaining full Trade Agreements Act (TAA) compliance. This achievement is designed to assist military, federal, and regulated enterprise customers who previously navigated a choice between security certified to the older FIPS 140-2 standard and practical usability in real-world scenarios. The validations were confirmed by the NIST Cryptographic Module Validation Program under Certificates #5091 and #5092.

A key aspect differentiating DataLocker’s newly validated devices is their smartscreen keypad interfaces. While other PIN-pad USB drives often require users to interpret blinking light codes and enter data without visual confirmation, DataLocker’s technology aims to enhance clarity and reduce user error. Features include visual verification, where characters are briefly displayed on-screen during typing, and support for true alphanumeric security, allowing for complex passwords with letters, numbers, and special characters, unlike numeric-only keypads. On-screen prompts guide users through setup, unlocking, and password resets, and clear messages simplify IT support interactions.

The DL4 is positioned as the world’s only TAA-compliant, FIPS 140-3 Level 3 portable hard drive. Designed for high-assurance environments, it incorporates a randomized touchscreen keypad with smartscreen guidance, SilentKill™ for emergency data destruction and enhanced tamper-resistance, and full SafeConsole® integration for centralized management, remote policy enforcement, remote kill functions, and detailed audit trails. The DL4 is available in various capacities to support standardization across different teams.

The Sentry K350 is recognized as the only TAA-compliant, FIPS 140-3 Level 3 encrypted USB flash drive equipped with a status display. Its smartscreen provides clear status updates and password entry confirmation. The drive features a rugged design, tested to IP68 and MIL-STD-810G standards for durability against drops, shocks, and environmental stress. It also supports rapid deployment with DeviceDeployer tools for quick configurations and powerful bootability across industrial, medical, and IT equipment for tasks like firmware updates, log collection, ransomware recovery, and forensics.

Jay Kim, CEO of DataLocker, commented on the validation, stating, “We believe complexity is the enemy of security. When users have to guess what a blinking light means, mistakes happen and data is put at risk. By achieving FIPS 140-3 Level 3 across both portable hard drive and flash drive categories with our smartscreen technology, we are proving that ‘Simply Secure’ isn’t just a tagline—it’s the new requirement for high-assurance storage. Customers and partners can now standardize on a single, TAA-compliant source for top-tier portable secure storage.”

Both the DL4 and Sentry K350 are immediately available through major resellers and distributors worldwide. They are fully manageable via SafeConsole® for remote policy enforcement and audit logging, with NIST Certificate #5092 for the DL4FE and NIST Certificate #5091 for the Sentry K350.

DataLocker, founded in 2007, specializes in encryption solutions, providing hardware-encrypted storage and secure device management primarily to government, military, and enterprise clients.
