CrashPlan, a specialist in cyber resilience and data governance, has announced a new integration with Microsoft 365 Backup Storage, designed to provide enterprises with rapid, large-scale data restoration capabilities and bolster their defense against significant data loss events. The integration addresses a critical challenge for organizations, as over two-thirds are targeted by ransomware, leading to potential operational, legal, and financial consequences from data loss. CrashPlan’s solution with Microsoft 365 Backup Storage is specifically tailored for industries handling high-value, compliance-sensitive data that demand stringent Recovery Point Objectives (RPO) and Recovery Time Objectives (RTO). The collaboration aims to enable enterprises to restore large volumes of data with 10-minute recovery points and speeds up to two terabytes (TB) per hour, all managed from a single, unified platform.Dan Beer, CEO of CrashPlan, emphasized the urgency of data recovery in modern enterprises. “When enterprises face large-scale data loss, every minute counts. Downtime due to incidents, whether cyber-related or other unforeseen circumstances, isn’t just disruptive—it’s a direct threat to revenue, compliance, and reputation,” Beer stated. “The CrashPlan Microsoft 365 Backup Storage integration transforms recovery from hours or days into minutes, without adding operational burden.”The integration leverages Microsoft 365 Backup Storage to facilitate high-performance, full asset restores across Microsoft Exchange Online, OneDrive, and SharePoint. This is particularly optimized for scenarios like ransomware attacks where the rapid recovery of entire workloads is essential. Enterprise IT teams can now manage both large-scale restores via Microsoft 365 Backup Storage and granular restores and searches through CrashPlan’s existing Microsoft 365 functionalities, all within the familiar CrashPlan console. This layered approach supports a comprehensive, risk-aware data protection model.Key advantages of the integration include accelerated recovery at scale, allowing restoration of full Microsoft 365 assets for selected users at up to 2TB per hour. The unified CrashPlan console eliminates the need for disparate tools, simplifying daily data protection and disaster recovery operations. Furthermore, the solution is built with enterprise-grade security and governance features, offering integrated support for Single Sign-On (SSO), role-based access control, encryption in transit and at rest, and policy-based user management. Being directly built on the native Microsoft 365 Backup Storage architecture, it leverages Microsoft’s trusted infrastructure.CrashPlan’s SaaS solution is hosted within Microsoft Azure, extending its security capabilities beyond Microsoft 365 environments to enhance user and admin workflows with features like self-service recovery, legal hold, and granular search across Microsoft 365, endpoint, and server data.Randy De Meno, VP Business Development & Microsoft Practice at CrashPlan, highlighted the company’s commitment. “CrashPlan is committed to delivering cost-effective, secure, and scalable data protection across the Microsoft 365 ecosystem,” De Meno said. “Our platform is built for speed, flexibility, and simplicity—so businesses can stay focused on growth, not recovery. Organizations using Microsoft 365 can leverage CrashPlan knowing they have a modern SaaS solution using the latest Microsoft infrastructure to best protect and manage their data.”As a preferred Microsoft vendor, CrashPlan complements the shared responsibility model by extending data retention beyond the standard 30-90-day periods. This collaboration deepens the existing partnership, utilizing Microsoft’s infrastructure to provide rapid disaster recovery solutions for large organizations.Brad Gussin, Principal Group Product Manager for Microsoft 365 Backup at Microsoft, commented on the strategic importance of the integration. “With this integration, CrashPlan has taken a major step in helping our joint customers promptly recover operations after cyber incidents. We look forward to continuing to work together with them to enhance the resilience of customer data.”
