Chargebacks911, a global provider in dispute prevention and remediation, announced a strategic partnership with cside, an advanced client-side intelligence provider. The collaboration aims to help merchants reduce chargebacks, prevent fraud, strengthen website security, and ensure compliance with evolving industry requirements in real time, enhancing the overall customer experience.

The partnership integrates Chargebacks911’s 14 years of expertise in chargeback prevention and remediation with cside’s client-side security platform. This platform monitors user login locations, provides device identification data, and analyzes web usage patterns. By combining these capabilities, merchant clients of both companies will gain proactive solutions for dispute management, revenue recovery, and access to web user details that can serve as compelling evidence, particularly under programs like Visa’s Compelling Evidence 3.0 and Mastercard First-Party Trust Program. According to Chargebacks911, this initiative will assist merchants in capturing improved payments flow data and device fingerprinting to maximize the effectiveness and coverage of their services.

Monica Eaton, CEO of Chargebacks911, stated that “Evolving fraud tactics, emerging technology, and shifts in consumer behavior are colliding to create a perfect storm for merchants.” She added, “By joining forces with cside, we’re delivering cutting-edge solutions that address the real-world issues merchants struggle with daily—from friendly fraud and false claims to hidden browser-side risks that compromise customer trust.”

The merging of data and insights from both companies provides merchants with layered protection against threats such as friendly fraud, operational inefficiencies, browser-based supply chain attacks, and fraudulent activity initiated through compromised third-party scripts. Additionally, merchants can ensure industry compliance with the latest payment rules and regulations, including real-time enumeration attack identification and prevention to protect against card testing attacks, a metric under increased scrutiny through Visa’s Acquirer Monitoring Program (VAMP).

Simon Wijckmans, CEO at cside, commented, “Merchants shouldn’t have to choose between protecting their customers and protecting their revenue.” He explained that the partnership “brings together the best of both worlds, chargeback expertise and advanced web security, so businesses can operate with confidence, knowing they’re covered on both fronts.”

Chargebacks, traditionally seen as a cost of doing business, have become a significant issue for merchants. A Mastercard report indicates that nearly one in five small businesses affected by chargeback fraud declared bankruptcy, with another 17% permanently ceasing operations. Visa estimates that up to 75% of all chargebacks are instances of abuse or misuse, yet merchants achieve a net recovery rate of only 18%, according to a study by Chargebacks911.

Client-side script-based attacks, previously known as “Magecart attacks,” are a prevalent and dangerous threat to online businesses, often difficult to detect without specialized tools. These attacks involve injecting malicious code into third-party scripts, leading to the theft of credit card data and other personally identifiable information, which can result in financial losses, reputational damage, regulatory penalties, and significant business disruptions.

Notable examples of such attacks include the British Airways hack in 2018, where malicious JavaScript was injected into the airline’s website and app, compromising payment details for approximately 429,612 customers. This breach went undetected for over two weeks and led to a £20 million fine from the UK’s Information Commissioner’s Office. More recently, in June 2024, Polyfill.io, a widely used open-source library, was acquired by a malicious actor, affecting more than 490,000 websites. Attackers maintained access to sensitive traffic for months before redirecting visitors to online betting sites under specific conditions.

With both chargeback fraud and client-side web attacks on the rise, merchants require proactive, layered solutions that safeguard revenue, ensure compliance, and protect customer trust. Both companies assert that the partnership between Chargebacks911 and cside delivers these solutions, assisting businesses in navigating contemporary payment and security challenges. Chargebacks911 safeguards over 2.4 billion transactions annually for clients in 87 countries, supporting more than 2.5 million merchants. cside specializes in browser-side threat detection and protection, ensuring complete visibility and control over vulnerable scripts and streamlining compliance with regulations like PCI DSS 4.0.1.
