Bow Valley Credit Union (BVCU) has announced the launch of Canada’s first Bitcoin Gateway, developed in collaboration with digital asset custodian Balance and Bitcoin liquidity provider Bull Bitcoin, enabling direct Bitcoin purchases for its members. The new service allows BVCU members to buy Bitcoin directly from their credit union accounts, linking traditional fiat currency to Bitcoin holdings. This integration aims to simplify the process for users, reducing the need for extensive technical knowledge of blockchain. The Bitcoin Gateway is designed to provide a straightforward, secure, and efficient method for acquiring Bitcoin. A key feature highlighted is that the Bitcoin purchased through the gateway is “real,” directly owned by the user, securely stored, and insured, differentiating it from derivative or pooled crypto products.Balance, a Canadian digital asset custodian operating since 2017, provides the custody services for the Bitcoin held through the gateway. Liquidity for transactions is managed through an integration with Bull Bitcoin, which offers up-to-the-minute competitive pricing, aiming to eliminate the complexities often associated with navigating cryptocurrency trading platforms.Brett Oland, BVCU CEO, commented on the initiative, stating, “The Bitcoin Gateway offers a safe, secure, and easy way to engage with one of the most important emerging asset classes of our time.”Bow Valley Credit Union, which has served communities in Alberta since 1953, positions itself as a full-service financial institution focused on innovative and member-centric banking solutions. The credit union is offering early access to the Bitcoin Gateway, with members able to sign up directly from their BVCU accounts.
