American Express and Emburse have expanded their strategic partnership by introducing two new features within Emburse Enterprise Expense: American Express Virtual Card issuance and Real-Time Transaction Data. This integration aims to streamline travel, expense, invoice, and payment workflows for large organizations, while enhancing financial visibility and control.
Joint American Express and Emburse customers can now issue Amex Virtual Cards directly from the Emburse platform. Additionally, the Real-Time Transaction Data feature automatically creates and categorizes expense entries, provides mobile notifications for cardholders, and offers finance teams immediate insight into spending.
Widad Chaoui, Senior Vice President of Corporate and B2B Products at American Express, stated, “Expense management remains a cumbersome process for our enterprise customers. They are looking for ways to simplify the employee experience whilst strengthening policy adherence and controls. We’re thrilled to partner with Emburse to deliver an intelligent expense experience and give our customers even more from their card programs.”
Paul Nagy, Chief Product Officer of Emburse, added, “This expansion makes it even easier for our shared customers to manage business spend with confidence and speed. Together, we’re helping organizations simplify the way employees pay for and reconcile expenses – giving teams enhanced clarity, actionable insight and a better overall user experience.”
Virtual cards are digital payment methods with unique card numbers, expiration dates, and security codes, designed to protect sensitive financial information and improve expense management for various business expenditures, including employee and non-employee spending, supplier payments, and projects. American Express and Emburse previously integrated American Express Virtual Card capabilities into Emburse Spend for small and midsize businesses.
The new Virtual Card issuance feature allows administrators to issue American Express Virtual Cards directly within Emburse Enterprise Expense. These cards can be issued digitally and on-demand for employees, contractors, or recruits, or requested through pre-approvals. They can also be pre-set with budgets, date ranges, and vendor controls to ensure policy alignment and enhance security by reducing fraud risk, as unique card numbers can be isolated, frozen, or replaced. This capability is currently available to U.
S.-based American Express Corporate and Business customers enrolled in Emburse Enterprise.
American Express’ Real-Time Transaction Data capability sends Corporate Card transaction data to Emburse as purchases occur. This automatically generates and pre-populates expense submissions, prompting mobile app notifications for Card Members to upload receipts. Administrators receive up-to-date data, which saves time by reducing delays in data availability and manual entry, helps improve compliance by facilitating timely receipt capture, and increases visibility for stronger oversight. This feature is now available to select American Express Corporate Card customers in the U.
S. enrolled in Emburse Enterprise, with plans for broader availability across Emburse Spend and Emburse Professional next year.
