Açaí Republic Adopts Square’s Unified Commerce Platform for Franchise Operations and National Growth

Açaí Republic, a quick-service restaurant (QSR) franchise specializing in organic açaí bowls and smoothies, has implemented Square as its unified commerce platform across 36 locations in California, Hawaii, Arizona, and Florida. This strategic adoption supports the brand’s national expansion plans, including over eight new locations under construction, by streamlining operations and enhancing the customer experience.

Founded in Southern California in 2012, Açaí Republic has expanded its franchise footprint due to increasing demand for its menu, which emphasizes organic ingredients sourced from sustainable farms in Para, Brazil, and contains no added sugars. The company sought a more scalable and integrated technology platform to manage its growing multi-state operations and maintain consistency.

Adriano Nasal, Founder of Açaí Republic, stated, “There’s a natural synergy between what we believe in, and what Square enables our business to achieve. We care about the health of our communities, and need a solution to drive the health of our business. We uphold sustainable practices, and are focused on achieving sustainable, long-term growth. Square stood out because it aligns what we put on the menu with the technology behind our operations.” Nasal further noted that Square allows the company to manage franchises across states, scale its specialized menu, and ensure a consistent customer experience.

Square’s comprehensive commerce ecosystem, including Square for Franchises, Square Register, and Square Terminal, provides Açaí Republic with tools for centralized oversight and local operational independence. The platform facilitates standardized menus and streamlined reporting while empowering franchise owners with efficient day-to-day management capabilities. The ease of implementation and intuitive design were factors in the selection, allowing new Açaí Republic locations to onboard quickly and deploy omnichannel ordering without additional complexity.

Leveraging Square’s open API platform, Açaí Republic has developed a tailored approach to its operational requirements. The franchise utilizes a custom kiosk solution with software powered by Square Terminal for payment processing. This system integrates with Açaí Republic’s custom mobile ordering application, which supports order-ahead functionalities, loyalty rewards such as ‘Açaí Coins,’ branded merchandise, and exclusive member offers, creating a cohesive customer interaction experience.

As Açaí Republic continues its expansion into new markets, the company aims to uphold its core values of quality ingredients, transparency, and a focus on wellbeing. With Square as its technology partner, the brand intends to efficiently scale its operations, foster further innovation, and deliver a consistent, high-quality experience whether customers engage in-store, via kiosk, or through mobile channels.

James Schonzeit, Head of Food & Beverage at Square, commented on the partnership, stating, “Quick-service restaurants are inherently complex businesses, and franchising adds another layer of coordination across operators, systems, and customer experiences. Square was built to solve that in a single destination, giving brands like Açaí Republic the tools to easily run, innovate, and scale. Whether that’s standardizing operations or building custom experiences that set them apart, we are here to help them grow from neighborhood favorites to nationally recognized names.”
