Orion and iCapital have deepened their technology integration within Orion’s Premier Partnership Program, providing independent financial advisors with streamlined access to alternative investment opportunities through single sign-on (SSO) and enhanced reporting capabilities. This collaboration aims to bridge a reported gap in investor access to alternative assets.
Orion’s 2025 Advisor Wealthtech Survey indicated a growing interest in alternatives, with 30% of advisors prioritizing these investments and an additional 28% planning to do so within three years. However, Orion’s 2025 Investor Survey revealed that only 23% of investors reported current access to alternatives via their advisors. The expanded integration seeks to enable advisors to incorporate alternative investments into client portfolios with greater ease and efficiency.
Todd Bertucci, Executive Vice President of Orion Advisor Technology, stated that the collaboration with iCapital simplifies the complexities of alternative investments, supporting advisors in constructing diversified, goal-aligned portfolios. He added that the integration is designed to ensure independent advisors can provide sophisticated solutions as demand for alternatives increases.
The integrated capabilities, currently in use across Orion’s platform, include seamless SSO access from Orion’s platform to the iCapital Marketplace, enabling advisors to access a range of alternative investment options. A comprehensive reporting feed automatically transmits investment, transaction, valuation, transfer, and redemption data from iCapital to Orion, allowing advisors to present both alternative and traditional assets within a single client report.
Advisors also gain access to resources such as educational materials, advanced search and filtering for asset classes including private equity, private credit, hedge funds, and real assets, as well as tailored research and due diligence tools. Intuitive workflows for initiating and managing investments, alongside interactive dashboards for fund lifecycle management, are also available.
This partnership aims to support the independent advice industry by providing access to institutional-grade tools and alternative investment opportunities. It is designed to reduce administrative burdens for advisors, allowing them to focus on client engagement and strategic planning, and enabling them to compete with larger institutions.
Steve Houston, Managing Director and Co-Head of iCapital Solutions, noted that the enhanced integration underscores their commitment to assisting advisors in serving clients through improved access to alternative investments. He emphasized that SSO, unified reporting, and a full suite of tools allow advisors to manage the investment lifecycle more efficiently.
The deepened integration is part of Orion’s Premier Partnership Program, a strategic initiative focused on collaborating with select industry leaders to deliver advanced solutions for advisors.
