MSCI Inc. has launched the MSCI All Country Public + Private Equity Index, a new daily index designed to provide investors with a combined view of public and private equity markets within a single, consistent framework, addressing the growing integration of private assets into investment portfolios.
The new index aims to offer a comprehensive assessment of total equity exposures and performance measurement across an investor’s portfolio. Its introduction reflects the increasing role of private markets in investment strategies, which contribute to diversification, long-term return potential, and access to economic segments not always available through public markets.
The MSCI All Country Public + Private Equity Index integrates the flagship MSCI ACWI IMI, a benchmark representing publicly listed equities across developed and emerging markets with approximately USD 5.6 trillion in assets under management as of June 30, 2025, with the new MSCI All Country Private Equity Index. The private equity component is a daily measure derived from MSCI’s proprietary dataset of LP-sourced cash flows and valuations from nearly 10,000 private equity funds. This combined approach ensures the index reflects both investable public equity and modeled private equity exposures within a global equity framework.
The index methodology prioritizes transparency and a consistent approach for its construction, maintenance, and rebalancing, adhering to MSCI’s established index design principles. It features a target allocation of 15% to private equity and is calculated daily based on the drifted weight and daily performance of each component index. Quarterly reviews and rebalancing maintain consistency with the target allocation, incorporating the latest available component index data.
