Motus has announced the launch of Road Smart, a new driver safety training solution designed for companies whose employees use personal vehicles for work. This addition expands the Motus Protect suite, aiming to help organizations mitigate liability risk, reduce avoidable expenses such as tickets and accidents, and demonstrate diligence to insurance providers through engaging, mobile-first microlearning lessons.
Road Smart differentiates itself from traditional driver safety training by offering short, mobile-optimized lessons that are under two minutes in length. These digestible microlearning modules are tailored to daily driving scenarios and are integrated directly into the Motus app and web portal, where employees already log and submit mileage.
Phong Nguyen, CEO of Motus, commented on the development, stating that employee driving habits directly impact business costs. He noted that violations and accidents increase expenses, including tickets, repairs, higher insurance premiums, and corporate liability claims. Nguyen emphasized that driver safety is a crucial component of any vehicle program and that Road Smart provides companies with a method to foster safer driving practices, protecting both personnel and financial stability.
As part of the Motus Protect suite, Road Smart builds upon Motus’ risk mitigation offerings by integrating with Motus Reimburse. This integration eliminates the need for additional logins or tools, as training is accessible within the existing employee application. For program administrators, this supports compliance by enabling controls that require lesson completion before mileage submission. This approach is intended to result in higher adoption rates among field teams, increased visibility into driver compliance, and an enhanced ability for organizations to reduce costs and demonstrate diligence.
Ryon Packer, Chief Product Officer at Motus, explained the goal behind Road Smart was to redesign driver safety training to enhance employee engagement. He highlighted that customer feedback emphasized the importance of training fitting into everyday work routines, leading to the design of short, real-world-focused lessons that are easy to complete on a mobile device. Packer stated that Motus seeks to transform training into a driver of safety and performance by making safe driving knowledge useful and engaging.
Malcolm O’Neal, CHRO of Renovo Home Partners, discussed the challenges presented by auto insurance for mid-market companies due to rising claims and volatility. He noted that Motus provided a comprehensive solution that integrated with their existing reimbursement program. O’Neal added that Road Smart’s in-app training, alongside insurance and motor vehicle record monitoring, incorporates proactive safety measures into the established driver workflow, making safe driving an integral part of their daily business operations.
The benefits of Road Smart include fostering safer employees and reducing costs by limiting corporate risk and decreasing the likelihood of incidents that can increase insurance premiums and liability claims. Its integration into the Motus app supports frictionless adoption. The microlearning format is reported to deliver 145% better retention, 72% higher engagement, and 94% learner satisfaction compared to traditional training. Additionally, real-time reporting provides administrators with visibility to monitor compliance and assess impact.
Road Smart is scheduled for availability starting October 15, 2025, as a component of the Motus Protect suite and integrates with Motus Reimburse. With this offering, Motus now provides a comprehensive suite of risk mitigation solutions, seamlessly integrated with Motus Reimburse, which also includes insurance monitoring and continuous motor vehicle record monitoring.
