Landlords and tenants are currently facing significant increases in heating and CO2 costs. Simultaneously, the European Union has revised its Buildings Directive, mandating the building sector to reduce CO2 emissions to meet climate targets. metr’s solution addresses these challenges by offering enhanced energy efficiency without extensive building restoration.
Dr. Franka Birke, Managing Director at metr, stated, “Most buildings still waste energy because they lack smart, affordable solutions to optimize their heating systems, which account for approximately 80% of buildings’ energy consumption. This stands in contrast to the EU’s ambitious climate targets. The metr plug-and-play technology provides real-time energy information and optimizes heating systems in existing buildings fully automated, using AI-powered software. This leads to an immediate reduction in energy costs and CO2 emissions.”
The company is driving its European expansion through a crowdfunding campaign, building on its success in Germany. metr has already secured over 5 million Euro in equity capital during the first closing of its Series B funding round. A further 1.5 million Euro is targeted for the second closing, partly through the crowdfunding platform Invesdor. The campaign for investors is open until October 9.
Over 70 companies, including Deutsche Telekom, the German Red Cross, and Median Kliniken, currently utilize metr’s software. As energy prices continue to rise and the EU prepares stricter efficiency requirements for the real estate industry, property owners are actively seeking fast, scalable solutions to mitigate heating and operating costs. metr’s technology offers contributions to reducing energy costs and CO2 emissions, aligning with several UN sustainability goals.
metr’s business model encompasses Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) and Equipment-as-a-Service (EaaS), providing long-term revenue streams. The platform demonstrates scalability and internationalization potential, with 3,600 properties already under contract in Germany, highlighting the demand for smart building technology and future-proof automated solutions.
