ALIS, a provider of eHR and operational software for senior living communities, announced the launch of “Ask ALIS,” an AI-powered Generative Pre-trained Transformer (GPT) specifically designed for assisted living, memory care, and independent living facilities, during its inaugural user conference.
“Ask ALIS” integrates artificial intelligence with two decades of senior living data and expertise to enhance clinical and financial operations. The tool is natively built within the ALIS platform, ensuring context awareness, resident privacy, and organizational security. It supports staff and leadership in real time through conversational text and voice interactions, addressing the unique operational challenges within assisted living.
Key functionalities of “Ask ALIS” include the ability to holistically summarize resident charts from both clinical and financial perspectives, available in over 20 languages. Users can generate on-demand reports and graphs without manual data extraction and execute actions directly via typed or voice-to-text instructions, such as charting care or recording vitals. The system also provides access to insights across all ALIS modules and its App Store ecosystem.
John Shafaee, CEO of ALIS, stated that AI in assisted living is viewed as a responsibility for the company. He emphasized that “Ask ALIS” was developed to integrate seamlessly into workflows, enabling staff and leaders to make faster, more informed decisions while maintaining security. Shafaee clarified that the aim is to provide an intelligent assistant to lighten workloads and improve outcomes, rather than replace human staff.
Reza Borhani, VP of ALIS’s Data Science team, highlighted the foundational depth of the company’s AI development. Borhani, who holds a PhD in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from Northwestern University and has co-authored multiple books on machine learning, explained that healthcare data’s complexity requires specialized models. He noted that ALIS has dedicated years to building its own infrastructure, structuring data, and designing models specifically for senior living workflows, distinguishing “Ask ALIS” from generic large language models by its foundation in two decades of industry data and seven years of AI development.
Trisha Cole, ALIS’s General Counsel and COO, reinforced the company’s technology-centric origins. Cole noted that ALIS’s foundational infrastructure was meticulously designed to support a resident-centric data model. She added that the company has consistently invested in modernizing its tech stack to ensure a robust, scalable, and secure information architecture within the industry.
With the introduction of “Ask ALIS,” ALIS aims to reinforce its position in applied AI for senior living, extending resident length of stay through an elevated resident experience, reducing administrative burdens for staff, and empowering communities to navigate digital transformation. “Ask ALIS” is projected to be generally available for all clients in Q1 2026.
